History

1920
  • January, 1921
    Founder, Komatoro Ando, aged 28, started trading medical equipment at 1-chome, Hongo, in the city of Tokyo (actual head office location).
  • March, 1927
    Succeeded in manufacturing the first aneroid-type sphygmomanometer in Japan and begins distribution under the name "Acoma sphygmomanometer". The product became so widely used that the brand name ACOMA almost became synonymous with sphygmomanometer.

1930
  • 1931
    Officially registered the brand name "ACOMA" and the trademark conceived by the founder.
  • February, 1933
    Manufactured and launched "ACOMA ultrashortwave treatment device."
  • January, 1934
    Launched "ACOMA portable X-ray device."
  • March, 1935
    Launched "ACOMA Electrosurgical Unit."
  • November, 1939
    Reorganized as "Ando Komataro Shoten Limited Partnership."

1940
  • March, 1943
    "ACOMA Medical Electric Machinery Company" was founded.  Production capacity increased with the acquisition of its own new plant in Sendagi-cho, Tokyo.
  • April, 1948
    "Ando Komataro Shoten Limited Partnership" and "Acoma Medical Electric Machinery Company" were merged to establish the present "Acoma Medical Industry Co., Ltd."
    The new head office building was constructed at the site previously destroyed by air raids.
 
1950
  • March, 1955
    Started manufacturing "ACOMA Trichloral Anesthesia Apparatus." The general-anesthesia apparatus was also completed around 1960, garnering acclaim as the first anesthesia apparatus made in Japan.

  • September, 1961
    New head office building was constructed that continues to serve as the head office today.
 
1970
  • March, 1970
    Completed "ACOMA Artificial Respirator AR-2000."
  • June, 1973
    The founder, Komataro Ando, passed away. Toshiharu Ando became president.
  • October, 1975
    Succeeded in manufacturing the "Amespirator ® KMA-1300," an innovative product that combines anesthesia and respirator functions.
  • June, 1977
    Succeeded in manufacturing the compact ventilator ARF-850E.

1990
  • June, 1995
    Production of the "ACOMA table-top type mercury sphygmomanometer" exceeded 100,000 units. This is an exceptional accomplishment in the medical equipment industry.
  • November, 1997
    Launched a new ACOMA "PRO series" standard product line.

  • July, 2000
    Omiya Factory and R&D Division obtained ISO 9001/9002 certification.
  • January, 2001
    Toshikazu Ando succeeded Toshiharu Ando as president.
    The company celebrated the 80th anniversary of its founding.
  • October, 2005
    Expanded to the field of veterinary science.
  • March, 2006
    Llaunched a new product, the KWA-1300V Anespirator.
